As a member and volunteer for the Antigonish SPCA, NS, Canada, I occasional provide home sheltering for the society.
During my lifetime, have shared my heart with Ginger, Mickey, Minnie, Billy, Muffet, Scooter, and Frosta.
I have also enjoyed my daughters' cats: Ashley, Bramble and Finch.
I have provided a safe haven for the following cats while they awaiting adoption to a "forever" home: Juno, Molly, Meg, Tully, Flynn, Molly, Archie Ranald ("aka Teddy), __?___, Violet, Shania, Allie, Tippi, Lauchie, Penny, Allie II, and Daisy.
Sharing one's home with a four-legged companion animal is similar to caring for a child.
It is a long-term commitment.
It means that you love the animal, and provide adequate food, water, shelter.
You help the animal stay healthy with veterinary care: vaccinations, preventive measures for fleas and worms, and prompt treatment for illnesses.
You maintain a clean environment for your pet at all times.
It is imperative that you spay or neuter your pet.
You must keep your pet safe. For cats: keep them indoors at all times. For dogs: confine them to your own yard and walk them regularly, always on a leash. Make sure they are wearing an ID tag, or have a microchip.
You NEVER abandon your pet.
Responsible pet ownership will reward you with a healthy animal which will give you unconditional love.
